Sunday Lunch

I don’t know about you, but I love to create things to remember. One of my created memories involve the traditional home cooked Sunday lunch when my children come home for the feast and family bonding. When they were little this tradition was observed by my mother. She was quite the fantastic cook, thus the food is wondrously remembered. Although food was the event, the real joy was being with family. My sibling’s children and my children grew up as close family… like it was years ago when families spent most of their time together. This continues to impact their lives in a really great way.

As the family grew and my mother got older, it became harder for the tradition to continue on a regular Sunday basis. We would visit in the afternoon, allowing her to forego the chore of cooking, or we would help by bringing dishes to share. My sweet mother is no longer with us, but the memories are forever tucked into that special place labeled “mother and love.”

Now, I must say, I had become complacent with cooking. I visited restaurants more than the kitchen. Upon deciding to continue my mother’s tradition, I was not sure how great the food was going to be, but I knew the family benefits would be outstanding and I wanted that for my grandchildren. Making no promises for quality of food, I pledged to prepare lunch for twelve every Sunday. I must say, cooking is a skill you never forget, thank goodness! I love to try new receipts from Facebook or Pinterest on my captive crew. Oh, what memories we are making! Try it, you may find you love it, just as I have!
