School Board Holds Called Meeting

The Jefferson County School Board met for a Called Meeting on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2014 in the Department of Education.

Chairman Jarnigan Called the Meeting to order. Absent from Roll Call were Board Members Vines and Rogers.

Jefferson County Finance Director Helton brought General Budget Amendment #5, Federal Budget Amendment #5 and Food Service Budget Amendment #1 before the Board for consideration. The amendments were in regard to employees bonuses that were approved at the previous School Board meeting. Helton informed the Board that the full time employee bonus will be in the amount of $121 and part time bonus will be in the amount of $60. The bonus will be paid in December 2014. Helton stated that the total amendment impact will be $120,312 and will come from General ($98,667), Federal ($14,013) and Food Service ($7,631) funds. The successful Motion to Approve the Amendments as presented was offered by Board Member Potts and 2nd by Board Member Cavanah.

Finance Director Helton informed the Board that an error had occurred on the previously approved budget amendment #4 item #9, which moved funds received from the Jefferson County Fair in the amount of $12,000 from fund balance to contributions. Helton stated that as a liability fund, the fund balance entry should have been preceded by a + rather than a -. He requested that the minutes reflect that change, however stated that no formal motion was needed, according to auditors.
