Misheard Song Lyrics

Really 300xChildren are an endless reservoir of humor, especially when they inherit their aunt’s bizarre, not in the least logical, ability to mishear song lyrics. ‘Big ol’ Chad and Delilah’ isn’t exactly a seamless replacement for ‘big ol’ jet airliner,’ but I suppose if your sense of reality twists past certain limits either could, in theory, carry you too far away. When lyrical entropy is a familial trait, perhaps due to a moo nation of ‘D’ in hay, Christmas music takes on a new level of entertainment.

My daughter was recently listening to “Silent Night.” After a few minutes, she got this odd look on her face and said, “Cheese, the sport of Grr? What’s that supposed to mean?” It took a moment to figure out the error, and much more than a minute to stop laughing, all of which she took in stride. My wife finally pointed out the correct interpretation was ‘Jesus, Lord at thy birth.’ Cheese, the sport of Grr – anybody could have made that mistake, even big ol’ Chad and Delilah.
