GEORGE GLENN MILLER

Dr. George Glenn (“Doc”) Miller, 94, Chuckey, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 17th at VA Community Life Center and a period of declining health. His kind and gentle ways, smile and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

George Glenn was born on December 1, 1920 in Dandridge, Tennessee, son of the late William Porter and Nannie Ruth Riley Miller. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a veteran of the US Army in World War II having served in the South Pacific Theater. George Glenn cherished visits with his grandchildren, loved gardening, tending his fruit trees and sitting in his swing on the back porch with his cat.

George Glenn obtained his Doctorate of Pharmacy having graduated from Howard College (now Samford University), Birmingham, AL. He was affectionately known as “Doc Miller” to many having retired after 44 years from CVS in Kingsport.

In addition to his parents, George Glenn was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald Miller (Dandridge), Oliver Miller (Bristol, VA), and Evonne Tate (Bon Aqua, TN).

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Frances Cleek Miller; his children, Deborah (Grady) Fleenor of Fall Branch, Terri (Jeff) Hurd of Kingsport, and Scott (Tammy) Miller of Chuckey; six grandchildren, Darby Fleenor of Fall Branch, Todd (Tammy) Fleenor of Fall Branch, Mandy Cox of Kingsport, Alex Hurd of Kingsport, Matthew Hurd of Fort Worth, TX, and Lanndan Miller of Chuckey; three great-grandchildren, Jarrett Fleenor of Fall Branch, Cassidy Fleenor of Fall Branch and Nikki Cox of Kingsport; brother, Frank (Virginia) Miller of Dandridge; sister-in-law, Rosie Miller of Bristol, VA; brother-in-law, Bill Tate of Bon Aqua, TN; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Tony Cox and Lisa Fleenor.

The family thanks Mountain Home VA Medical Center, VA Community Life Center, JC Medical Center and the NHC for their kind and considerate care.

The family of George Glenn will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at East Lawn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Reverend Don McCann, James McCann (his brothers-in-law) and Jeff Hurd (his son-in-law) officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors rendered will follow the service in the Garden of the Mausoleum of East Lawn Memorial Park. American Legion Post 3, Kingsport and American Legion Post 265, Gate City, VA will accord military honors.

Serving as pallbearers are Darby Fleenor, Todd Fleenor, Alex Hurd, Matthew Hurd, Lanndan Miller, Bill Cleek, Ronnie Tate and Benjamin Johnson.
