When you think about a hurricane, you most likely think of lots of rain and extremely high winds, ordinarily destroying everything in its path and taking no prisoners, right? Well, on Friday night it was the Patriots who did just that.

Determined to show the Hurricanes that their last meeting was a fluke, Jefferson County came out from the opening tip with a point to prove. “There was a lot of tension built up for this game,” Head Coach Chris Poore said. “The last time we went up there they were able to get us, and that really left a sour taste in our mouths.”

The sour taste must have been a little sweeter by the end of the first quarter, with Jefferson County leading, 33-4.

Noah Carter had 3 three-pointers in the quarter and remained hot coming off of the Sevier County and Morristown West game. Poore explained Carter’s role on this team is not just as a shooter. “Noah plays a huge role on the floor,” he added. “He is probably the best defender on ball that we have. We put him on their best player (Guard) and he does a great job with that.”

The Patriots would outscore East in the 2nd as well and take a commanding 55-13 lead into the half. Jefferson County would outscore East in the 2nd half 28-14, and cruise to an 83-27.

Senior John Bryant led the Pats with 23 points, 16 of which came in the first quarter. Fellow Senior, Kyle Briggs, added 15, while Noah Carter had 11 points.

With the win, JCHS improves to 19-5 (10-1) and is ranked #6 in Class 3A. Winners of 18 of their last 20, Jefferson County hosts Seymour Tuesday night at 7:30.

Lady Patriots Dominate East

Much like the Boys’ contest, the JCHS Lady Patriots dominated Morristown East, jumping out to a 14-4 lead, and cruising to a 29 point victory, 60-31.

Tori Griffin led the Lady Pats with 16 points followed by Makaila Woolard with 13 points. Brooke Taylor also added 11 points, while Alexandria Alder and Julia Codispoti added 10 and 8, respectively.
