Alder Leads Lady Pats Over Lady Trojans
Alexandria Alder led the team in scoring (18 Points), led the team by playing point guard, and even started the game on a 6-0 run all by herself. It was her last shot, however, that left Jefferson County basketball fans in a frenzy.
After Morristown West’s, Abby McKinnish, swished a three pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 58, Alder took the inbounds pass, dribbled the length of the floor, and made a spinning lay-up with just 4 seconds left.
“I thought at the very least we were going into overtime,” Alder said after the game. “So I thought what the heck!”
As it would turn out, the Lady Patriots would win the game and sweep the Lady Trojans during the regular season.
“It’s a great accomplishment anytime you can beat Morristown West,” JCHS head Coach Rick Sinard said. He added, “Johnny Galyon’s program out there is second to none across East Tennessee and across the state.”
Jefferson County led or was tied the entire game, with the exception of an 11 second interval, where the Lady Trojans took a 49-48 advantage, only to see the Lady Pats regain the lead on the next possession from the free throw stripe.
It may have been momentary, but Sinard said he learned a lot about his team during that time. “We came back,” Sinard said. “We lost the lead there and were able to get it back, and that tells me a lot about my team.”
With the win, Jefferson County improves to 16-6 on the season and 8-2 in IMAC play. They will host Morristown East, a team that is responsible for one of those losses, Friday night at 6 pm.
Patriots Pound Youthful Morristown West
Jefferson County used its size and veterans to defeat the Morristown West Trojans, 65-32, on Tuesday night. In a game that was close for one quarter, Jefferson County dominated every aspect and even got young players some valuable experience.
“I was pleased with our performance,” Chris Poore said. “When the young guys got in they extended the lead, rather than let them creep back in it.”
With the win, the Pats improve to 18-5 overall and 9-1 in IMAC action. They return to home Friday night to try to avenge their only conference loss this season against Morristown East.
