Someone forgot to tell the Jefferson County Patriots that Tuesday night was a different day, a different game, a different team. Just 4 days after blasting Morristown East, 83-27, Jefferson County shot out of the gates against Seymour, and led 19-0 before the Eagles would get their first bucket.

“We definitely didn’t want to let that game effect tonight’s game,” Chris Poore said of not letting the kids have a “down” night. “We came out and shot the ball very well tonight, and that helped things out too,” he added with a smile.

Jefferson County opened the game on 19-0 run and led after the first quarter, 22-3. With that first quarter score, Jefferson County has outscored their last two opponents in the first quarter, 55-7.

The Eagles would come out in the second quarter and hit an opening quarter three-pointer and settled down a bit. The Patriots were too much. Danny Bates would score 6 of his team-high 12 in the quarter, and Jefferson County would lead 40-19 at the half.

Despite Jefferson County being out of school on Tuesday due to weather, Poore said it actually helped more than hurt the team. “We came out yesterday and were not focused,” he added, “so I was glad to be able to get in here today early and get them re-focused on this next stretch.”

The Patriots were able to extend their lead with guys coming off of the bench, and cruise to an easy win, 72-43.

Danny Bates led the Pats with 12 points, while Noah Carter added 11. Harper would chip in 9 points, while Kyle Briggs and Cameron Gregg would each score 8.

With the win, the Patriots are now 20-5 (11-1) and have won 19 of their last 21 basketball games. Most would say JCHS is one of the hottest teams in the state right now as Cocke County comes to Dumplin Valley Friday night.
