Much like the first meeting between these two teams, Seymour hung around most of the game, but in the end just couldn’t find a way to win.

Jefferson County played great defense in the first half allowing just 2 baskets from the field in the first half. The Lady Patriots’ lead was just 9 at halftime, but Head Coach, Rick Sinard, was pleased. “I thought we were guarding really well.” He added, “We limited them to 2 field goals, but they got 9 points from the free throw line.”

Jefferson County’s lead was shrunk to just 8 heading into the final quarter, thanks in large part to missed opportunities by the Lady Patriots. “We have got to finish shots,” Sinard explained. “Their girls down low will put a body on you. We just need to do a better job of finishing our shots.”

The Lady Pats would outscore the Lady Eagles 17-9 in the final quarter and win pretty handily at 50-34.

Sinard, although not completely pleased with the win, admitted they are still on track to achieve their goals. “A win is a win.” Sinard added, “It’s a conference win, and it gets us one step closer to our goal.”

Jefferson County returns home on Friday night to host Cocke County, and Sinard thinks his team still needs to improve on some things. “When we throw it into the post, we have to cut to the rim.” Sinard said in closing, “We need to play much better Friday night.”

Tori Griffin and Brooke Taylor led the Lady Pats in scoring, each netting 12 points apiece. Makaila Woolard added 11 for the Lady Pats, while Julia Codispoti added 6.

With the win, Jefferson County improves to 18-6 (10-2) with just 4 regular season games remaining, including Cocke County on Friday at 6 pm.
