Birds Feast Before a Storm

Really 300xThere is an old wives’ tale that states birds feast before a big snowfall. Yesterday, as I peered out my bedroom window, I saw a flock of birds gorging themselves in my yard, which seemed consistent with the legend, even if it doesn’t quite confirm its truth. While this behavior is certainly interesting, it is one particular bird that drew my attention. A round fellow who looked as if he had swallowed a pudding filled balloon roughly twice the acceptable diameter of a bird of his ilk paced about reluctantly pecking seeds. His demeanor was subdued, even perhaps a tad bitter. On closer inspection, I noticed he was holding a sign which read “local meteorology caused my obesity.” Having just returned from the grocery store with bread and milk I overcame the masses to retrieve, I immediately identified with the poor fowl’s predicament. Now, I can only hope one of these snow forecasts finally comes true and the bird experiences a week of wintry weather. If not, I suspect he may succumb to a diabetic condition and roll uniformly toward low ground.
