Spring 2015 – A Welcome Relief To East Tennessee

After weeks of cold, ice and snow, Spring is a welcome relief to many in the East Tennessee region. Soon the back and forth days of March, where temperatures can jump as much as twenty degrees in the space of a day, will flow into warmer days. In ancient Greece, Persephone was know as the Goddess of Spring, coming up from the underworld to preside over the season. In modern times, we know that the change in temperature and daylight hours has nothing to do with Greek mythology. However, we get a little boost of our own from daylight savings time, which increases our time for sun and fun.

Perhaps it is Mother Nature’s strange sense of humor that finds the first day of Spring brimming with cloud cover and absent of the sunshine that is so longed for following the dreary days of winter. Or maybe it is Old Man Winter’s reminder that when the leafs begin to turn and fall, he will be back for another round of frosty days. Regardless, it is inevitable that the flowers will bloom and the trees will bud. And, yes, the sneezing and watery eyes will commence. However, this year, as in most years, locals are welcoming Spring and all that it entails with open arms. Welcome Spring 2015! We have been waiting for you.
