All Saints’ Episcopal School is pleased to announce 7TH grade student, London Keller, as first place winner in the Annual Farm Bureau “What is a Farmer?” Essay Contest. Jane Dean and Ernestine Haun of Farm Bureau visited the school this week to congratulate London and present her with $40 in first place prize money. Her essay will be submitted to represent Hamblen County at the state level contest in April. “We just really appreciate All Saints’ Episcopal School’s continued participation in this essay contest,” says Jane Dean of Farm Bureau. “London wrote a wonderful essay and we are thrilled to have it represent the students of our county.” Winners will be announced in May and are eligible for up to $700 in prize money.

The entire All Saints’ family of students, parents and faculty are proud of London and her accomplishment. “I’m shocked and excited that I won- the contest and the money,” states an excited London. “This makes me feel so good that I’m a contest winner for something I love to do.”

The essay contest has a long history on both county and state levels. It is a great way to expose students to writing opportunities beyond the four walls of the classroom and the importance of writing skills in life. “It’s exciting when our ASES students can win a regional writing contest,” says Mark Workman, Middle School Language Arts teacher at All Saints. “The quality of our students is validated by this type of competition.” The essay was judged on content, originality, clarity of expression and proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I’m sure the entire county is rooting for their own county student to take top prize in this year’s competition.
