The Time Is Now

editorial-logo3We are starting one of my favorite weeks of the year. No, not the kick off of budget season, which happens this week. And not the regrouping of the the audit committee, which also happens this week. I am referring to Holy Week. It is a time when we can, and should, step away from our more mundane problems and focus on the really important things in life. This is a time for rebirth of the soul.

Regardless of where your spirituality is centered, the world needs a time of reflection, accountability and rebirth. I am undulated with news and, sadly, much of it is not good. In my days of youth, I largely ignored the world around me. My world was from weekend to weekend and laugh to laugh. As my responsibilities grew, so did my awareness of the world around me. Perhaps it is technology or perhaps it is simply age, but the world seems, at the same time, smaller and more vast than it did three decades ago. I now know, as we all do, that even my little corner of the earth is not cushioned from decisions made by those whose names I may never know and causes I will never embrace.

It is this week that rejuvenates my spirit and allows me the peace of mind to take on whatever tomorrow or next week or next year brings. It is my hope that you find your path to rebirth of the soul, the consciousness of the world we share and community that sustains us. Be it in a church pew, on a solitary walk or over a slice of ham with a side of mashed potatoes, I hope that this week reminds you of all that is truly important in your life. Everything else will still be waiting on the other side of Holy Week, but I am counting on a good dose of grace to wash down the less palatable decisions that may lie ahead.

The world is not perfect and one week cannot cure the woes of the masses, but we certainly need to take every opportunity to breath and reflect on the good and the mistakes. After all, if we are so bound by the past missteps that we cannot stretch out our arms, we will never reach a better future. Happy Easter, from my family to yours!
