Hot Fudge Sauce

recipe-dessertIt’s no secret that I love ice cream. I can eat it any time of day, any time of year. I think I get that from my dad. So, it should come as no surprise that growing up, my mom made a killer hot fudge sauce for ice cream. And now I am sharing this recipe with you. Be careful to not overcook it, though, or it will get hard as a rock after pouring it over ice cream. And not the good magic shell kind of hard, but an I-can’t-even-break-this-with-a-sharp-knife kind of hard. But cooked properly, it’s amazing, even cold, straight from the fridge on a spoon.

Ingredients:

1 cup milk

1 ½ cups sugar

4 T butter

½ cup powdered sugar

5 T cocoa powder

1 t vanilla

Directions:

Place the milk, sugar, and butter in a saucepan set over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook at a boil for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.

In a separate bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and cocoa powder.

Add cocoa mixture to milk mixture when it has finished its boiling time. Add vanilla and stir until well combined and no sugar lumps remain.

Serve warm or store in refrigerator.
