SIDNEY BUFORD BISHOP

Sidney Buford Bishop, age 93, of Jefferson City, TN died Wednesday May 6, 2015. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Jefferson City; former agriculture teacher in LaFollette and Rutledge for 13 years; retired agency manager with Tennessee Farmers Insurance Companies after 40 years of service; earned BS and MS degrees from the University of Tennessee Knoxville; veteran of WWII Eighth Armored Division – received Bronze Star, Silver Star three battle stars and Purple Heart; member of Rising Star Lodge #44 F&AM, Knoxville Scottish Right, Kerbela Temple, American Legion Post #119, past president of Tennessee Vocational Teachers Association, vice president of the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association, past president of the Knoxville Association of Life Underwriters, past president of the Knoxville Chapter of Financial Service Professionals; received the Distinguished Service Award as the most outstanding FFA Alumni in 1984; received the David Blumburg Public Service Award in 1992; served as the Eighth Armored Division Association Reunion Executive Director for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam E. Bishop and Edna B. Bishop; and wife of 54 years, Geneva Trammell Bishop. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Laura Bishop of Norcross GA, David and Debbie Bishop of New Tazewell, TN; grandchildren, William (Lyn) Bishop, Berkeley Lake GA; Jennifer Bishop, Norcross, GA; Allison Bishop, Norcross, GA; Matthew (Anna) Bishop, Knoxville and Sarah Bishop, New Tazewell; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the caregivers at Darby House, including Denise Claxton, Jackie Lawson, Kay Lawson and Donna Cochran. The family will receive friends Friday, May 8th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Memorial service will follow at 7:00 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Reverend Gene Wilder officiating. Interment will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 am at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School class.
