GILBERT DALE CROW

Gilbert Dale Crow, 90, of Jefferson City, TN passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Centers surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born April 15, 1925 the son of Lilly Dovie Belcher Crow and Gilbert Crow in Lawrenceville, IL. Mr. Crow was a WWII Veteran having enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served as a sonar repairman in the Pacific. He married Margaret Dolores Brown on August 15, 1950 and she survives. He is also survived by a sister Rosie Christine Crow Zimmerman, Houston, TX; son Steven D. Crow (Maryanna), Petersburg, IL; daughter Margaret Ann “Maggie” Clerk (Kevin), Dandridge, TN; grandchildren Stefanie Crow Branson, Petersburg, IL; Shawn Crow, Kent, WA; Erika Clerk, Charleston, SC; Whitney Clerk, Bloomington, IN; and great grandchildren Gabrielle Branson, Cydnee Crow, Isabelle Branson, Logan Crow and Madilynn Crow along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceeded in death by his parents, siblings Lloyd Crow, Charles Vernon Crow, Rolla Charles “Bud” Crow, Eleanor Ruth Crow Johnson, John Eldon Crow, Betty Louise Crow Hartley and grand daughter Sarah Elizabeth Crow.

Mr. Crow worked in the oil field for many years in the Robinson, IL area and also owned and operated the Marathon Service Station in Centralia, IL for several years. He had a strong work ethic which he practiced and passed along to his children and grandchildren. After retirement they moved to Haines City, FL where they resided for several years and moved to the Jefferson City, TN area two years ago to be near their daughter. Mr. Crow was formerly active with the Shrine, Masonic Lodge, Elks and VFW. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan. He was a Protestant and of the Baptist faith.

Per his request, Mr. Crow was cremated and a family service will be held at a later date at the Newlin Cemetery in Robinson, IL. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
