Happy New Year

editorial-logo3I come from a family of educators, so this is my new year. It is not the striking of the clock at midnight on January 1st that sends my heart soaring and has me planning resolutions. No, it is the striking of the school bell, signifying the first day of class of the school year. This year I have high hopes that there are some really great things in store for Jefferson County.

Finally, our students will reap the reward of months of construction and have a new, improved facility in which to learn and grow. By the end of this school year, hopefully well before the end, Building 8 will also be repaired and with the new face will come a new commitment to our vocational students.

Money will roll over in to fund balance from last year, so maybe we can fill some of those needs that were cut during the budgeting process. We will have enough books and desks and teachers and equipment and our students will flourish.

Whatever the new year brings, I hope that it includes peace, joy, knowledge and hope for the future of the children of Jefferson County. And patience, strength, commitment and support for those that educate the young minds of today and future leaders of tomorrow. Oh, yeah. A little extra money would probably be appreciated, as well.

Here is to having a great year for our students and teachers! Happy New Year! Let the School Bells Ring!
