Carson-Newman University Library Installs More than 50 New Computers

Carson-Newman University is making major technological updates in Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library just in time for students to arrive for the fall semester.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is replacing nearly 40 PCs on the main and second floors with new ones. The department is also making room to accommodate more students with seven additional PCs and eight Macs. The additions mark the largest computer overhaul for the library to date.

“We’re delighted to have a total of 52 brand new computers in the library for student use including brand new Macs, which students have been wanting,” Dean of Library Services Bruce Kocour says. “Now we can serve both Mac people and PC people.”

Director of Information Technology Services David Tuell says the upgrade is largely in response to surveys ITS and Library Services have conducted over the last few years.

“The library is the primary lab the students use on campus and we want to make sure we stay in line with requests from the students,” Tuell says. “We want to give them the best options for computer use and printing.”

ITS will also replace the library’s printers before the fall semester, adding the option to print in color. Some printers will allow for mobile printing.

Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library is located along Russell Avenue on Carson-Newman’s campus.
