Maury Middle School was placed on Shelter in Place alert on Friday morning, October 23, 2015. Dandridge Police Chief Carson Williams stated that the action was precautionary and that no threat had been made directly to the school, students or personnel. Thursday evening a domestic altercation occurred on Kerr Street, which is in the vicinity of the school, and a male suspect, identified as Kevin Taylor, left the scene on foot. Witnesses contend that Taylor was armed and there is a felony arrest warrant that has been issued for his arrest, according to Chief Williams.

Though classes inside the school will continue as usual, there will be no outside activities pending the location of the suspect or credible information that he has left the area. Extra police patrols will be on hand until the situation is resolved. Williams stated that Taylor has ties in the Morristown area and the local authorities have been notified that he may be in the area and armed. Local business and residents that are near the site of the altercation have also been notified to be aware and contact authorities should they encounter Taylor.
