Get Ready to “Fall Back” an Hour on November 1, 2015!

Night owls, rejoice, because the Daylight Saving Time ends on November 1st. At 2:00 am on November 1st, clocks will need to be set back an hour, so don’t forget to change your alarms! Sleep-deprived people all across America and Europe can thank Benjamin Franklin for the original proposal of Daylight Saving Time, though the program wasn’t widely used until the early 1900s, when William Willett proposed his British Summer Time to keep people from wasting daylight in the Summer.

Although differing in how the clocks are set, British Summer Time ultimately inspired the U.S. Adoption of DTS by influencing businessman Robert Garland, who brought the idea here from Europe. Despite its long history, DTS has only recently ended on the first Sunday in November, thanks to the Energy Policy Act signed by President Bush in 2005. Before, DTS Ended on the last Sunday in October. Although there is some controversy surrounding whether DTS should be left behind, every bit of American land excluding Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Island uses DTS, so we’ll likely have to live with the time changes for the foreseeable future. Late sleepers, hard workers, and especially parents, remember to set those clocks back!
