BOBBY JOE SHARP

BOBBY JOE SHARP, age 83, of Jefferson City, TN passed away on January 14, 2016. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City where he enjoyed singing in the choir for over 50 years, served on numerous committees, was active in Sunday School, construction projects, communion steward, and the Keen Agers. He loved and was a perfectionist at woodworking, fishing, gardening and winning family games. He attended Jefferson City High School and graduated in 1950. He then graduated from Carson Newman College in 1954 where he received a degree in Business Administration. Following his graduation from Carson Newman he enlisted in the U. S. Army and spent two years at Fort Hauchuca in Arizona. Working was important in his life. He started as a boy with a paper route in Jefferson City. He then went on to work in the Bush Brothers Bean Plant and in the Jefferson City Zinc Mines. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 30 years of service as an internal auditor, where he traveled to all the dams in the TVA service area, a systems analyst, and an administrative officer in the computing center in Chattanooga, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nina Sharp; and sister, Ernestine Gift. Survived by wife, Agnes Crawford Sharp; daughters, Jan and Robert Stinson of Talbott, TN, Carolyn and Tom Lawing of Charlotte, NC, Nina and Joe Payne of Jefferson City, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Ornelas of Austin, TX, Walt and Laura Stinson of Jefferson City, TN, Andrew Lawing of Annapolis, MD, Graham Lawing of Charlotte, NC, Russell Payne of Jefferson City, TN; sister, Agnes Sharp Vaughn of Arizona; brother, John Sharp of Johnson City, TN; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give special thanks to Chandler House and Jefferson County Nursing Home and all those who helped care for him. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City with Rev. Ron Ramsey officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Monday morning at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church of Jefferson City, general fund, choir fund or piano fund, 2011 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
