The Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution held their organizational meeting and installation of officers on Saturday, February 6, 2016. In attendance were representatives from other local chapters including Emory Road Chapter (Knoxville), Spencer Clack Chapter (Sevierville), Samuel Doak Chapter (Morristown) and Sons of the American Revolution, as well as a 5 year old member of the Children of the American Revolution.

Dignitaries Marcia Pickle, State Correspondence Secretary, and Cecile Wimberley, Second Vice Regent, were on hand in their official capacities to support the fledgling chapter. Presiding over the meeting and the formal installation of officers was Jacqueline Utley who serves as the Organizing Secretary for the Tennessee Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Officers for the Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter are Regent – Mary Cay Khiel, Vice Regent – Jane Chambers, Treasurer – Wendy Randolf, Registrar – Julie Wilbur, Recording Secretary – Caroline Harris, Historian – Katie Schmidt, Librarian – Lorna Matlock and Chaplin – Elizabeth Finchum. In total, there were eighteen oaths of membership in the new chapter.

Saturday’s meeting took place at the Shepard Inn, located in the historic town square in Dandridge, adjacent to the Revolutionary Cemetery. Currently, there are around 177,000 members of the the DAR and the organization is 3,000 chapters strong. Its reach spans every state and even internationally. The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 and since its inception it has boasted a membership of more than 930,000. Committed to promoting patriotism, the DAR is a non partisan, non political organization whose members have a confirmed linage to those that served in the American Revolution. The Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter is interested in expanding its membership and welcomes inquiries regarding becoming a member.
