The Jefferson County Patriots Boys, coming up in a close second to Sevier County for the IMAC title, advanced to the first round of Regionals.  The game was played at JCHS Saturday night against Tennessee High, the same school whose girls knocked the Lady Patriots out of the tourney.

The Patriots pulled ahead quickly in the first quarter, with 9 points from Noah Carter, and 2 buckets from beyond the arch from Danny Bates.  The Jefferson County Patriots gained the lead and never looked back.  The quarter ended 23-11.

The second quarter, The Tennessee High Vikings tried their best to catch up with the Patriots’ drive, and even outscored the Patriots 15-11 during the quarter.  Tennessee High just could not pull ahead, and the Patriots held them off to end the half still up by 8, 34-26.

The second half saw a breakdown in Tennessee High’s defenses.  In the second half alone, Tennessee High fouled Jefferson County 15 times.  Their favorite target, Noah Carter, went to the line 4 times in the fourth quarter alone.  After being outscored 21-13 in the third quarter, and 26-16 in the fourth, Tennessee High went home and the Jefferson County Patriots protected their house for the win.

The top scorer for the evening, Noah Carter, ended the night with 22, and hit 7 of his 8 attempts from the free throw line.  Danny Bates grabbed 21.  The late bloomer for the night was Cameron Gregg, 16 of his 18 points came in the second half, with several powerful layups that kept the momentum going for the Patriots’ big win.

The Jefferson County Patriots now advance further into the region, heading up to Morristown East on Tuesday to carry on in the tournament.
