A Tuesday morning house fire in Dandridge sent one man to the hospital, according to officials on the scene. Curtis Layman, of High Street, suffered from smoke inhalation after being trapped in a fire at his residence. Several pets were also reported to have been in the home and, though some are thought to have escaped, others are feared to have perished in the trailer fire.

The Dandridge Fire Department responded to the call, as well as the Jefferson County Rescue Squad, and the Dandridge Police Department. Mutual aid was provided by Kansas Talbott Fire Department, White Pine Fire Department and Lakeway Fire Department. Appalachian Electric was also on hand to deal with power issues.

Layman’s wife Rebecca and brother David, daughter and niece were all present as he was pulled from the fire. According to Rebecca Layman, her husband was conscious and communicating with rescue personnel as Paramedics from Jefferson County EMS were loading him into the ambulance for transport to Tennova Hospital in Jefferson City. Due to HIPPA considerations, the hospital could not comment on Layman’s condition.

The origin of the fire was not, yet, determined but the trailer appeared to be a total loss.
