The Jefferson County Mock Trial Team, headed up by Mr. Cogdill, swept the Knox County Regional Mock Trial Competition.

Jefferson County went up against 12 teams over the two weekend competition.  They would go undefeated, including Clinton High School in the championship round.

For competition, the Mock Trial Team was given a case in November; all the schools in the state are given the same case to work. This year’s case is about “product liability.”  Each round of competition, teams will draw to see if they are to play the part of the plaintiff or defense, so they must know both aspects of the trial process.  Each side has 3 witnesses that also must learn the part and act it out.  The lawyers are required to know the case inside and out, as well as the rules of evidence and when to make objections.  One of the seniors is actually planning on continuing their education in law.  In the district competition, Tyler Harlow got best attorney, while Alex Bulinski got best witness.

The Jefferson County Mock Trial Team will now go on to Nashville, to compete against the best schools in the state.  The State Mock Trial Competition will be March 18th and 19th.
