The Parrott-Wood Library hosted their grand opening of the new Parrott-Wood Children’s Learning Center last week. The Parrott-Wood Library has struggled for years with its small accommodations, with the staff pulling miracles to fit all the library’s computers, bookshelves, desks, and other supplies in the space given. In time, Secretary Hargett offered $5,000 towards the renovation of the library, which would be matched by the county’s $5,000 County Construction Grant. Interest in the project grew as a result, and an anonymous donation to match the first $12,500 towards the library’s expansion snowballed. Modern Woodmen of America provided the library’s front flag pole and matched the first $2,500, with fund raisers raking in thousands more. To date, the expansion project has cost $61,538.79, showing the impact a community and local businesses can have on the attainment of much-needed renovations. Now, the Parrott-Wood Library lays claim to its own Children’s Learning Center, giving locals and their children a place to enrich and further their education.

Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Jefferson County Mayor Alan Palmieri, and other local dignitaries attended the grand opening to usher in the new opportunities that the Strawberry Plains area has to look forward to with the completion of the library’s expansion.
