Happy Easter from the Jefferson County Post

Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the cumulation of 40 days of reflection and sacrifice that begin on Lent. It is also the final day in Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday and includes Maundy Thursday, which is the celebration of the Last Supper, Good Friday, the day of Christ’s death and Holy Saturday, a time to focus on the transition from Goody Friday to Easter.

Easter 2016 is early, coming just a few short days after the change of seasons from winter to spring. The date of Easter is determined by the full moon and falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox. Should the first full moon fall on a Sunday, Easter will be on the following Sunday. Thus, Easter is a religious holiday that does not have a permanent home on the modern calender but, rather, travels from year to year.

We hope that this Easter finds you and your family full of happiness, good health and peace. From the Jefferson County Post Family to Yours, Happy Easter!
