In an incredible field effort against the Greeneville Green Devils on Friday Night, the Jefferson County Patriots would add another win to their season, as they hosted Greeneville at Patriot Field.

The Patriots got off to an early lead in the bottom of the first as both Trevor Whitley and Jacob Rogers would tag home, thanks to a double by Sean Fladd.

Both the Patriots and the Green Devils performed well out in the field, and the game continued for the next three innings with the Patriots holding on tightly to their 2 run lead.  Both teams battled intensely to keep runners off of the home plate, and showed solid pitching.

In the top of the fifth inning, Greeneville sophomore Augustus Fraley made contact with a pitch from John Hensley to knock one out of the park, which put the Green Devils on the board for the first time during the game.  They would only cross the home plate one more time for the evening, at the top of the sixth, and tie the game 2-2.

The back-and-forth battle continued on for the Patriots.  John Hensley’s strong pitching endeavor was followed up with a perfect final inning performance by Ryan Buchanan, who didn’t allow any hits or walks during his time on the mound.  The Jefferson County Patriots had one more at bat to try to keep this game from going in to extra innings.   The Greeneville Green Devils would kill any chances of a comeback when their pitcher would hit not one, but four Patriots that came up at bat.  Just in time, an RBI would bring Matt Bradley home, and the Patriots protected their house once again, coming out on top 3-2.

John Hensley had a solid performance on the mound, other than the one home run allowed.  Hensley threw 20 strikes for the evening, with four strikeouts and zero walks.  As he started to wear down, Ryan Buchanan stepped up to the mound, and for his one inning at the helm kept straight zeros on the board.  Both pitchers had strong support from the fielders, who only allowed 1 error for the evening.

Jefferson County’s bats were quiet, though, on Friday night.  During their 25 at bats there were only eight hits.

Next up on the Patriots agenda, Jefferson County will be traveling to Seymour Monday night to face off against the Eagles in the first game of a double header that will conclude on Tuesday at Patriot field.
