DAVID C. JONES

DAVID C. JONES, age 64 of Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday morning, April 7, 2016. He was the son of the late, Nancy Elizabeth Newman and Cecil Clark Jones and was a proud seventh generation Jefferson Countian and member of the Rankin Clan.

Brought up in Hopewell Presbyterian Church, he received an excellent grounding in faith and Christian tradition. He was a delegate to the 200th Presbyterian General Assembly. Later he became an active member of First United Methodist Church. Some contributions include Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Council on Ministries chairperson, Certified Lay Speaker and District delegate to Holston Annual Conference.

David received a Bachelor’s Degree from Carson-Newman College and held graduate degrees from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was a teacher and administrator in Jefferson County Schools. As a leader and champion of public education, he served two years as President of the Tennessee Education Association and worked several years as a TEA staff member advocating for teachers and students.

Civic duty was of great importance to David; he served the citizens of Dandridge as mayor for two terms and as an alderman for several terms.

He is survived by wife, Anne Goddard Jones; daughter, Rachel Glenn (Ashley); grandchildren, Preston and Emma; brother-in-law, Doug Goddard (Caroline); sister-in law, Libby DiGeorge (Tony); several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; an aunt, Bonnie Hudgens; cousins Lena Beth Reynolds (Tom), Darrel Newman (Deb), Bobbie Newman, Grant Newman (Missy) and their children and grandchildren.

Pall Bearers: Ben Goddard, Ben Sirknen, Cole Carmichael, Damon Lindner, Doug Goddard, Hugh Kilgore, Robert Dziewulski, and Troy Pulliam. Honorary Pall Bearers: Darrel Newman and Michael Lee.

The visitation will take place Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Dandridge First United Methodist Church from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016, 2:00pm at the Dandridge First United Methodist Church with Rev Dr. Steve Brown officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
