Outdoor Play for May
With the nice weather we have this month, it is time for some outdoor fun. Get your child outside by organizing a bubble blowing contest with friends or neighborhood children. Just mix up some bubble solution, assemble some tools for blowing, and the fun begins.
Homemade Solutions
1 cup water
2 tablespoons light karo syrup or 2 tablespoons glycerin
4 tablespoons dishwashing liquid
Mix together
Colored Bubbles
1 cup granulated soap or soap powder
1 quart warm water
Liquid food coloring
Dissolve soap in warm water. Stir in food coloring.
Bubble blowing tools:
Slotted spoon
Bamboo carpet beater
Funnels
Fly swatters
6-pack rings
Silicone steaming basket
Mason jar lid rings
Cookie cutters
Wire hangers (wrap fabric, jute, yarn around the loop to soak in more liquid)
Pipe Cleaner (make different shapes)
Straws and String
Things to do: Give everyone a supply of bubble solution and some bubble-blowing tools and the contests begin.
– Biggest bubble.
– Long lasting bubble.
– Bubbles within bubbles.
– Prettiest bubble.
– Roundest bubble.
– Oddest shape bubble.
– Most colorful bubble.
– Wet a tabletop with bubble solution and use straws to create piles of bubbles by stacking one on the other (thirty seconds). The winner has the most bubbles or highest stack.
