All Saints’ Episcopal School’s was excited the share the completion of their yearlong “Walk Across Tennessee” program with State Representative Jeremy Faison. Rep. Faison joined students and faculty as they presented some of the facts the students learned, highlighted their commitment to physical fitness and debuted a “Walking Across Tennessee” brochure that was designed by the seventh grade at ASES. The yearlong program was part of the students daily lunch period. Mark Workman, middle school Language Arts instructor coordinated the fourth through eighth graders and first grade teacher Susie Justice handled the Kindergarten through third grade.

Rep. Faison visited the school to congratulate the students and reward them for their efforts by presenting a new map to encourage them to continue the learning program. “To witness the physical and academic education these students have gained by this program is incredibly impressive,” says Rep. Faison. “I look forward to sharing this brochure and their story with my colleagues in Nashville.” He too learned something new from the highlighted facts.

Students took their Tennessee walk very serious throughout the school year, with many children adding pedometers and FitBits to their uniforms. “These children may not have physically walked across this state but they intellectually gained facts on History, English, and Geography,” states Mark Workman, program co-leader and middle school Language Arts instructor. “Tennessee history is not generally taught in the classrooms today, and we feel it’s extremely important to know about the history and heritage of where they live.”

“Walk Across Tennessee” is one of the many programs of learning offered to students beyond the classroom to maximize the academic experience at All Saints’ Episcopal School. They are currently enrolling students from ages two years old to eighth grade for the 2016-17 school year.
