Maury Middle School held its eighth grade graduation and honors day for students on Tuesday. Students were presented to family and friends with fanfare from the eighth grade band and choir. Special guest speaker, Maury and JCHS alumni, Spencer Edmunds addressed the crowd with words of wisdom to the graduates.

Various social and academic awards were given, along with certificates of recognition from contests that occurred throughout the school year. Maury teachers also gave away several “Hornet” awards to students who exemplified the appropriate attitude necessary to achieve in difficult circumstances. The academic top ten were announced, along with honors students and academic student of the year award winner Jacob Night. To end the ceremony, teachers and students gave tribute to Barbara Elder on her retirement with a home make quilt consisting of various handprints of students. Maury Middle and the Jefferson County Post would like to congratulate all of the 2016 eighth grade graduates.
