Happy Thanksgiving from the Jefferson County Post

Turkey fever is reaching its height this week as many prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. Many will participate in the yearly “turkey shuffle,” bouncing from house to house to get their yearly fill. In fact, eighty-eight percent of Americans will eat turkey on Thanksgiving, with approximately 46 million turkeys being sold for the occasion.

Other fun Thanksgiving facts to impress at the table include the fact that only male turkeys gobble. Female turkeys, on the other hand, are called hens, and they actually cackle. There are also four places in the United States named Turkey. They include a town in Louisiana called Turkey Creek with only 440 residents. Other towns bearing the name Turkey include Turkey Texas; Turkey, North Carolina; and Turkey Creek, Arizona. There are also two townships in Pennsylvania named Upper Turkey Foot and Lower Turkey Foot.

Fun facts aside, on behalf of the staff and editors of the Jefferson County Post, we would like to wish all our readers a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
