Happy Good Friday from the Jefferson County Post

Today is the kickoff to one of the fundamental weekends in the Christian faith. Good Friday is Friday, April 15, 2022, which is the Friday preceding Easter commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

While the holiday does not have a fixed date, many around the area have the day off. It is said that Jesus passed on the first day of Passover, the date of which is set as the first full moon after the vernal equinox. The day Passover is celebrated on determines both Good Friday and Easter celebrations.

Although Good Friday is not recognized as a national holiday, in more than ten states Good Friday is celebrated as a holiday for workers. Most spend the Day seeking rest, fasting, and praying as they hope to finish strong in their season of Lent.

For many, Good Friday is a reminder of the hardships and sacrifice of Jesus Christ from his arrest, crucifixion, and believed final act of rising from the tomb. May observers spend the day reflecting on all the joys of Christ and the coming Easter weekend. We at the Jefferson County Post would like to wish you and those you love a Happy Good Friday.
