TWRA Invites Public to Share Input at Upcoming Elk Program Workshops
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is developing a new Strategic Elk Management Plan and invites the public to attend one of two public scoping workshops to share input and hear about the plan’s components.
The new plan will help guide future agency decision-making regarding the elk program, which began in the year 2000. Since then, 201 elk have been released into the 670,000-acre elk restoration zone located in Scott, Morgan, Campbell, Anderson and Claiborne counties. The current elk population is estimated at about 400 animals.
The first public scoping workshop will be held on Tues., May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ball Farm Event Center located at 2107 General Carl W. Stiner Hwy (Hwy 63) in LaFollette. The second workshop will be held on Thurs., May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairview Elementary School in the Straight Fork Community of Scott Co. located at 8702 Baker Hwy in Huntsville.
In lieu of attending the meeting, written comments may be sent via email to Ask.TWRA@tn.gov or by mail to 3030 Wildlife Way Morristown, TN 37814. Please add “Elk Program Comments” in the subject line.
