Jefferson County High School Holds Their 41st Commencement Ceremony

Saturday, May 20th: the day that 451 graduating Seniors from Jefferson County High School have been waiting for has finally arrived.

After a procession of the faculty, who lined up according to their years of service, the familiar music of “Pomp and Circumstance” began.  The thousands in attendance to honor the Jefferson County Class of 2017 were welcomed by Ashtyn Fritz, and Matt Bradley provided the Invocation with a prayer over his fellow classmates.  Amanda Sendall sang Randy Newman’s “Almost  There,” and the Patriot Singers performed Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Dr. Monty Sharp congratulated  the many students who graduated with honors and special recognition, as they were asked to rise up to display their accomplishments.  As Chloe Hodge addressed her classmates, she reminded them of their marks on Jefferson County High School history.  They were the first to walk the halls of Patriot Academy, the first to see renovations to the high school to completion, the first to have 30 score above 30 on the ACT test, the first to see the Baseball Team make it all the way to State Championships,  and the first to “re-do” a senior play “which we did much better.”  Jonathan Royster also addressed the class, reminiscing of their time together.  He was reminded of a story he had heard about cadets who were training for a branch of the military.  If they were ready to quit, they could “ring the bell.”  Royster encouraged them to “never ring the bell.”

All the students’ hard work was honored with the presentation of their Diplomas, and they were released to the next chapter of their lives.

The Jefferson County Post would like to congratulate the  Jefferson County High School Class of 2017.
