Kevin Poe, Candidate Circuit Court Clerk Jefferson County

Kevin Poe has announced his candidacy for the office of Circuit Court Clerk in Jefferson County. Kevin held a recent campaign kick-off event on November 4th at the Brazelton Lodge #190 F&AM in Dandridge.  Born and raised in Jefferson County, Kevin has lived a career committed to public service.

Kevin currently serves as a criminal investigator with the District Public Defender’s office in the Fourth Judicial District. However, he began his life of public service in the U.S. Army, following the September 11, 2001 attacks. His allegiance to country prompted him to immediately withdraw from college and enlist. He served as a Military Police Officer, being stationed at Camp Delta in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and in Pusan, South Korea, rising to the rank of sergeant. Upon his return home, Kevin served as a deputy and SWAT member with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for several years. He went on to serve as a Deputy Clerk in the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office coordinating the collection of outstanding monies owed to Jefferson County in court-related fees. In that capacity, he created and implemented the standard operating procedures for the newly-created collections program that recovered in excess of $840,000 owed to Jefferson County. “I feel it critical to have a well-rounded background in all aspects of the justice system in order to provide fair and impartial service to court officers and the citizens of Jefferson County,” notes Poe. During his time in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office, he became experienced in Circuit and Sessions Court’s criminal and civil operations.

Kevin is an alumnus of Walters State Community College, where he obtained Associate Degrees in both Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He followed up with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Austin Peay State University, and he is also an alumnus of Leadership Jefferson County.

In his personal time, Kevin is involved with the Jefferson County VFW Post 3380, Brazelton Masonic Lodge #190 F&AM, the Scottish Right, The Shriners, as well as serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Dumplin Valley. He also serves as a community board member on Jefferson County’s local alcohol and drug coalition (Rescue 180), and serves as a Community Ambassador for Operation Enduring Warrior. Kevin has been married for 16 years to his wife Della, and together they have two amazing daughters, Dakota Faith and Kayden Hope. They are members of Swannsylvania Baptist Church in Dandridge.

I have several ideas how we can improve daily operations in the clerk’s office, including, but not limited to, extending service hours, making better use of existing technologies, accepting online payments with credit/debit cards, and serving our citizens consistently, fairly, and with the utmost respect,” offered Poe, “But, I am also very interested in hearing from other citizens how they would like to see services improved.” To learn more about Kevin and his vision for improving the services of the Circuit Court Clerk’s office, visit his campaign website at GoKevinPoe.com.
