The Emmy nominated band Grascals, from Nashville, Tennessee, are a huge hit right now in the bluegrass scene and Jefferson County residents were lucky enough to have them play right here in Dandridge! The Grammy nominated band is in high demand and their Friday evening stop at the Field of Dreams Activity Center was a huge boon for the area.

The six member band brings a strong musical and stage presence. Vocalist Jamie Johnson does double duty on the guitar, while guitarist Terry Eldredge, and bassist Terry Smith keep the energy high. Playing the mandolin is ace Danny Roberts, fiddler Jeremy Abshire, and banjo player Kristin Scott Benson. The trio interest to the tunes and more than 200 people packed the house to hear the six piece bluegrass specialist.

Later this month they are playing at the Smithsonian Institute Inauguration Festivities, as well as appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They will be playing at the Native Nations Inaugural Ball at the Smithsonian institute Nation Museum of the American Indian on January 21st at 7:00 pm. Jamie Johnson a founding member of the Grascals is a proud member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation of Sarnia, Ontario.

The music was great, the crowd was cheering and the show was stolen by the little man behind the band! Jamie Johnson’s four year old son Cole sat in with the band for the evening. Cole Johnson, who is four and a half, was having a blast playing along with the band and adding his own vocal style to the tunes.
