DR. LEONIDAS D’ENTRECASTEAUX

Dr. Leonidas D’Entrecasteaux “LD” Word Jr., age 75 of Knoxville, formerly of Morristown, passed away Thursday December 27th, 2018 at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born April 1,1943 in Alexandria, LA. He was a graduate of Holston High School in Knoxville and graduated from the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis. He was in private practice in Morristown for 38 years and ended his career with Western Heights Dental Clinic after 8 years of employment. He was a member of Talbott Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He served in the United States Navy retiring at the rank of Captain after 32 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents Betty Burney, The Honorable Leonidas D’Entrecasteaux “LD” Word, Sr. and his father and mother in law Ross and Johnnie Cornwell of Talbott, TN. and special aunt “Big Bonnie”. Survived by his wife Donna R Word of the home, his children: Alison Campbell (Jason Miller) of Knoxville; David (Leslie) Word, Louisville, KY; Denny (Anne) Word, Australia and their mother Patricia Word, Morristown, TN; Todd (Kimberly) Henderson, Knoxville, TN; Tami (Brian) Davis, Elizabethtown, KY; grandchildren: Aidan Campbell, Kellen Word, Justyce, Onyx and Saylor Word; Elizabeth (Blake) Egbert; Emiliegh McKee; Erika (Mark) Hudson; Caroline and Chloe Henderson; great-grandson Markus Hudson; his sisters: Nancy (John) Greenfield, Pensacola, FL; Kay (Tommy) Rapier, Cleveland, TN; Sisters-in-law: Pam (Richard) Bibbins, Talbott, TN; Terri (Jimmie) Glasscock, Morristown, TN and Bonnie Henderson (Doug Hartley), Gatlinburg, TN; several nieces and nephews; lifelong friend David Birdwell; special friends and travel companions S.L. and Sylvia Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude, Friends of the Smokies, or a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Talbott Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Ramsey and Terry Sanders officiating. Family and friends will gather at 11:15 a.m. at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, January 3, 2019 for an 11:30 a.m. graveside interment service. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the church.
