State Senator Frank Niceley (R-Strawberry Plains) has been appointed to the leadership of two key committees in the Tennessee Senate.  Niceley will serve as 1st Vice-Chairman of the Senate Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Transportation and Safety Committee.  The appointments were made by Lt. Governor Randy McNally during the General Assembly’s 2019 organization session.

Niceley was also appointed as a member of the powerful Senate Commerce and Labor Committee.

“I am very pleased with these committee appointments,” said Sen. Niceley.  “The legislation considered in all three of them has a profound effect on our communities.  I look forward to getting to work on solutions that will extend more opportunities to the people of the 8th district.”

The Energy Committee’s scope includes review of legislation related to Tennessee’s hunting and fishing laws, state parks, energy conservation, agriculture, preservation of natural resources and fostering the state’s tourism industry.  The Transportation Committee is responsible for legislation regarding all forms of transportation in Tennessee, including highways, roads, bridges, railroads, air, bus and vehicles.   The Commerce and Labor Committee hears legislation dealing with economic development, banking, business, insurance, communications, consumer affairs, occupational licensing and employment matters.  Due to the scope of legislation considered there, it is considered one of the most powerful committees in the General Assembly.

Niceley represents district 8 in the Tennessee Senate which includes Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson and Union Counties.
