Middle School Baseball Tryouts Held
The boys of summer were battling freezing temperatures on Friday evening, as the newly formed Jefferson County Middle School Baseball Team held make up day try outs. Jefferson County High School Baseball Coach Warner said that around 90 athletes are looking for a position on the Middle School Team and around 30 will actually make the cut. Though summer and travel league baseball has enjoyed a strong participation inside the County, this is the first time that a school sponsored team has been available to middle school students. In the past few years, Jefferson County has instigated a school sponsored Middle School Softball team and that venture has been very successful. The expectation is that the baseball team will enjoy equal support and success. Though it is still several weeks before the opening pitch, Coach Warner stated that the Middle School Team will have a full schedule. With interest and participation level high among young players across the County, Coach Warner’s pitch for a Middle School Baseball program is looking like a home run.
