Underwood New Supervisor of Special Education for Jefferson County Schools & Lemons Assistant Principal for Jefferson Middle

In an announcement from Jefferson County Director of Schools, Shane Johnston – Today we are excited to announce Mrs. Jessi Underwood has been hired as the Supervisor of Special Education for Jefferson County Schools.

“Mrs. Underwood brings classroom experience as a special education teacher as well as building level administrative experience to this position and we are excited to announce this move. I am confident that her previous experiences as an educator and administrator in the school system will provide key skills needed to work with all the schools and administrators. She will continue the excellent job Dr. Tammy Bowlin has done in this position by providing resources and support to our parents, students, and administrators.”

The Supervisor of Special Education position was recently advertised following Dr. Tammy Bowlin’s announcement to retire in the coming months. Dr. Bowlin and Mrs. Underwood will have a short period of overlap to provide a seamless transition.

“No one has invested more time and energy into making sure all students were reached than Dr. Tammy Bowlin. She is a veteran educator that always advocates for children and above all a great representative of the high level of commitment of so many in the Jefferson County Schools.”

Mrs. Underwood has been in education for 11 years and holds an educational specialist degree. She will begin her new duties on August 1, 2020. Mrs. Underwood will continue to assist the administrative team at Jefferson Middle School over the next several weeks prior to beginning her new assignment at central office.

Mr. Jacob Lemons, current teacher at Jefferson County High School, will become the new assistant principal at Jefferson Middle School effective July 1, 2020.

“Mr. Lemons has always demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and a commitment to the promotion of a positive school culture. I am confident that his leadership skills will be an asset at Jefferson Middle School, and he will be a fine addition to the administrative team and school faculty.”

Mr. Lemons just completed his 11th year in education and holds a master’s degree.
