James Earl Dukes

James “Jim” Dukes went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2022, at the age of 94. Though he was not our biological father and grandfather, he was wholeheartedly our family’s beloved “Pop” and “Pappaw.” He showed us by example the true meaning of being a faithful and loving spouse to our Mammaw, a father and grandfather to us, and friend to those around him. He was always willing to offer assistance to a family member or friend in need, and loved to serve by cooking and sharing food for family functions, church events, and for people who needed help or comfort from a meal. He enjoyed spending time with family, visiting with friends, listening to gospel music, working on the farm and home, and working on cars. He was skillful, inventive, and fun.  Preceded in death by our Mammaw, his wife, Daisy Dukes, who he adored. In our family, he is survived by daughter, Jeanne (Ron) Jones of Kodak, Tennessee; granddaughters, Lori (Jon Mac) Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kara Jones of Union Township, New Jersey, and Melanie (Corey) Hawkins, of Sterling Heights, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Carter Jones, Amelia Hawkins, Josilyn Hawkins, Nancy Claire Johnson, Elliot West, and Betsy Johnson; and many friends who were like family including, Johnny and Carla Whitehead  and Scott, Christie, Gavin, and Gage Smith, He was a member of Thorn Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00p.m prior to funeral service held at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 with Reverend Joey Marshall and internment immediately following at Cate Cemetery in New Market.
