Andrew Farmer, Tennessee State Representative District 17

Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has appointed State Rep. Andrew Farmer, R-Sevierville, to serve on the Southern Legislative Conference’s (SLC) Human Services and Public Safety Committee.

As part of its mission, the committee considers the challenges that states are facing in the areas of human services and corrections, as well as policies and programs that address them. It also assesses pressing health issues including the national opioid crisis, organ donations and long-term care, as well as various corrections issues such as aging inmate populations and mental health parity in prisons.

“It’s an honor to be chosen by Speaker Sexton to serve on this important committee,” Farmer said. “Implementing policy that ensures the health and safety of all Tennesseans is a top priority. I look forward to working with the committee on meaningful changes at both the state and federal levels.”

Farmer’s term begins immediately and will end on Nov. 5, 2024.

“Andrew Farmer’s institutional knowledge and professional legal experiences make him the ideal individual to represent us on the Human Services and Public Safety Committee,” Sexton said. “Andrew will do an incredible job at the upcoming Southern Legislative Conference as we all continue working together to share ideas and provide innovative solutions to address public safety in communities across Tennessee and other southern states.”
