Mayer Announces Candidacy for Jefferson County School Board

Dawn Mayer

Dawn Mayer announces her candidacy for Jefferson County School Board District 4, which covers the White Pine and Baneberry area. She is a pro-family candidate that believes in transparency, academic fundamentals, and fiscal responsibility. As a tax-paying citizen and parent of two children attending Jefferson County schools, she wants parents to have a voice in the education of their children and see parental decisions supported by the school district. She believes that her business and parenting experience are important attributes to guide decision making for the school system.

Dawn considers herself a conservative, patriotic, and involved citizen of Jefferson County who believes Jefferson County Schools can be improved with good decision making and prioritizing resources. Her business experience will enable her to evaluate contracts, policies, and legislation that are fundamental to good decision making and management of school personnel. She has always been involved in her daughter’s education, volunteering to chaperone field trips and assisting teachers with grading assignments. She has work experience as a teacher’s aid and has training in childcare resources, English as a second language, and early childhood development.

Dawn and her husband Matthew have raised two well informed daughters that are willing to take action to change policies. She believes in the participation of parents in directing their children’s education as well as advising elected officials on policy decisions. Over the past year, Dawn helped lead the charge to change the high school graduation policy so that military recruits could wear their service tassels on their graduation cap, a privilege that was denied to JCHS graduates until 2023.

She is committed to improving a healthy partnership between parents, teachers, and school administrators. Two of her beliefs are those of increasing student confidence through personal achievement and improving academic achievement by supporting teachers and promoting interaction among education stakeholders.

Dawn is a member of the Jefferson County Republican Party Credentials Committee that is charged with maintaining voter integrity in reorganization and election activities.

She is a republican candidate that will appear on the March 5, 2024, primary ballot.
