100+ Women Who Care Jefferson County – SafeSpace Receives $12,800

100+ Women Who Care Jefferson County is a group of women who gather four times a year for a one-hour meeting, learn about charities and each donate a $100 check to a charity that the group selects. The combined donation of $10,000 makes a real impact without time-consuming fundraising events and planning.

100+ Women meet four times a year and members donate a $100 check at each meeting. At each meeting members nominate local charities or non-profits that have a 501(c)(3) and serve Jefferson County. Three nominees are drawn at random. Each of the nominees makes a brief presentation at the next quarterly meeting. Members vote of which cause to support and the top voted charity, Big Winner, receives all donations for that quarter.

Quarterly meetings will be held on the first Monday of the months in February, May, August and November from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jefferson County High School (JCHS) James D. Swann Performing Arts Center.

100+ Women Who Care Jefferson County had its first Big Winner drawing November 13, 2023. SafeSpace was the voted charity receiving $11,300 from members and a $1500 matching grant from Modern Woodmen for a grand total of $12,800.

The primary purpose of Safe Space is to provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, court advocacy, resource referrals and counseling to victims of domestic violence (battered women and their children).

100+ Women board members were thrilled to exceed the fund raising goal of $10,000 at the first voting meeting. Women of all ages have joined. They reside in all parts of Jefferson County and a few of the members are from surrounding counties. Positive comments have been said regarding the lack of time and commitment involved, the large financial contribution given to the winner, and the increased community awareness for local charities.

The next 100+ quarterly voting meeting is February 5, 2024 6:00pm at the JCHS Performing Arts Center. The Big Winner nominees are Boys and Girls Club, Renovatus and Samaritan House. Rusty Wallace Ford Dandridge will be matching $1000.

Future meeting dates for 2024: May 6, August 5 and November 4.
