Rescue 180

We are excited about the opportunity to reach out to our community and help to provide necessary tools for preventive challenges, in the area of substance misuse.

In this column we will also be sharing intervention guidance as well as assist you with questions about substance misuse, and recovery.

So many people in our society only talk about the horrible results of addiction, even largely mock recovery, and never even acknowledge the importance of prevention education. In this column we will spend a few weeks covering the strategic plan for our county. We will share our models and evidence-based process that morphs into “boots on the ground” action that we implement.

Oftentimes, when folks find we are prevention specialists/practitioners ask me, what do you prevent? We are going to break things down and share this vision with our county. For example, do you realize that the number two killer in our society in 2022 stats of morbidity has been overdose and this was second to Covid-19.

Addiction has been an epidemic for many years and we have watched the lines on graphs steadily rise, due to lack of education and awareness.

First a little history. We kicked off our first organizational meeting at Dandridge Police Department in January of 2009.

At that time, we at Rescue 180 were fighting under-age drinking. The number of substances grew, first to under-age tobacco use, then to pills. After 15 years in this profession we are not only doing prevention education for those three substances, we also educate about the dangers of marijuana, stimulants and basically all substance misuse.

Now, Rescue 180 is a full blown Crisis Center for our county.

In this column, we will do our best to help provide information, guidance and support.
