Jefferson County, Tennessee Director of Schools –

I am releasing the following statement on the below TN House Bill 1202.

Once signed into law. Jefferson County Schools will not immediately change any policy or procedure allowing staff to begin carrying a gun this school year. I will have discussions concerning policy and procedure of employees carrying a gun with the board, the Sheriff, and District-wide Safety Team. Final plans, information, and records regarding employees being Allowed or Not Allowed to carry a gun will be a part of the district-wide school safety plans and building level safety plans. These plans are confidential and not for public release.

Teachers, Principals and School Personnel – As introduced, authorizes a faculty or staff member of a school to carry a concealed handgun on school grounds subject to certain conditions, including obtaining an enhanced handgun carry permit and completing annual training. – Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13 and Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 8.
