Jefferson County, TN VSO Job Announcement

This is a full-time position including benefits. Successful candidate will act as the lead representative on all US military veterans’ activities within Jefferson County, and will represent county veterans for actions within the Veterans Administration systems. Applicant must be an honorably discharged veteran; preference given to a disabled veteran already familiar with the VA system.

Required capabilities include, but are not limited to:

-Proficiency in computer and communication skills, particularly of VA systems.
-Ability to be accredited by the VA.
-Ability to initially demonstrate general knowledge of pensions, benefits, compensations, presumptive conditions, PACT Act and other military benefits. Must attend initial and regular VA training to attain/maintain VSO certification. Applicant must attend initial training within six months of hiring and then demonstrate detailed knowledge of pensions, benefits, compensations, presumptive conditions, PACT Act and other military benefits.
-Must understand HIPPA, FOIA and other regulations concerning release of personal claims information.
-Must possess the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively counsel Veterans, family members and beneficiaries about VA benefits.
