Obituary – Jeremy Scott Sutton of White Pine, August 31, 2024
Jeremy Scott Sutton, age 44 of White Pine, passed from this life on the evening of Saturday, August 31, 2024. His End of Watch came while valiantly serving in the field to which he had dedicated his life.
Jeremy’s desire to help others began in early childhood. As a Junior Squadsman, he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, L.S. Wood, a lifetime member and Chaplain with the Newport Rescue Squad.
More than half of his life was spent with Jefferson County EMS as a paramedic / captain over the past 23 years. In addition, he also worked as a paramedic for Grainger & Greene counties. He served as the assistant chief of the Jefferson County Rescue Squad; and was named Squadsman of the Year in 2019. For many years, he volunteered with fire departments in White Pine and Baneberry. He was also a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the White Pine’s Leadvale Lodge. Above all, he was a faithful Christian, and a member of Leadvale Baptist Church.
Jeremy also loved sharing his experience with students, having taught at Fulton High School – where he was awarded Teacher of the Year by the Knox County School System in 2016. He inspired and encouraged youth to pursue career opportunities as first responders and medical professionals; eventually becoming State Advisor for the Tennessee Department of Education, focusing on HOSA and FCCLA programs.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Lloyd Scott “L.S.” Wood & Nanny, Eudena Phillps Wood; as well as his biological father, Gary Sutton.
He is survived by his wife, LeAnn Mottern Sutton; children, Brayden Scott Sutton, Jackson Lee “Tater” Sutton & Mason Alexander “Turkey” Sutton; his mother, Cheri Wood Sutton; sisters, Amanda, Cindy, & Rachel; his in-laws, Bobby & Sandy Mottern; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members; countless friends; numerous professional colleagues; HOSA, FCCLA, and other CTSO connections across the state and beyond. He also leaves behind his fur baby, Ollie and EMS buddy, Angel.
Captain Sutton will lie in repose Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 12PM to 2PM in the auditorium of Lakeway Performing Arts Center (located on the campus of Lakeway Christian Academy) in White Pine. Masonic funeral rites will be delivered at noon; and the family will receive friends that afternoon from 2PM to 4PM and again from 5PM to 7PM.
Pastor Brandon Cate will officiate the funeral service, which will take place at 11AM, Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Lakeway Performing Arts Center. Interment with full Emergency Service Honors will follow at White Pine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Jefferson County Volunteer Rescue Squad or deposited into a fund established for Jeremy’s children through Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union.
Farrar Funeral Homes of Dandridge, White Pine, & Jefferson City are humbly honored to serve the Sutton family.
