County Commission Holds First Meeting Of New Fiscal Year

The Jefferson County Commission held the first meeting of the new fiscal year on Monday, July 21, 2025. Preceding the start of Business, Proclamations and Resolutions were presented in honor of the late Mack France Jr. who perished in the service of his country during the Vietnam War and in honor of the Bradenton Lodge #190 in celebration of their 175th anniversary.

17 members of the body were present. Absent were Commissioners Norton, Lowe, Johnson and Dockery.

One item, Resolution 2025-06 establishing regulations for short term rentals, was pulled from the agenda at the advice or CTAS and the County Attorney. The item should be ready for presentation at the next regular meeting. Several rezoning resolutions moving from A1 to C2 were approved, as well as a surplus donation resolution.

Also finding favor with the Commission Body was a resolution to authorize a $12.50 fee  for misdemeanors and felonies. The Commission tabled a potential land purchase of 86 acres of the Moore property on a split 13-4 vote, with the motion brought by Commissioner Snodgrass and 2nd by Commissioner Coleman. The purchase was to come from room tax which has limited use parameters. Currently the County has $2.2 million in collected room tax. Three budget amendments were also approved, as well as Nomination Committee and Mayoral placements on various committees which are a part of general housekeeping.
